Katherine grew up in the small, quirky town of Stars Hollow. It's a cute town where seasons are marked in passing by numerous festivals, the characters are friendly and very remembered for all their quirks and interests. Her mother works as a teacher at the private school she went to, Chilton Academy. Her grandmother owns and runs the Dragonfly Inn, one of the top Inns in Connecticut that resides in the quaint Stars Hollow. And her great grandmother lives on the small island of Nantuckeet, where she spent many of her summers as a girl.

She grew up loved and doted on, loved greatly not just by her mother but her grandparents Lorelai and Luke, and her great-grandmother Emily. Rory never married Katherine's father, Logan Huntzberger. From the stories Katherine was told as a girl, and what she later learned when old enough, Logan didn't know of her existence until she was two. The way her mother tells it, Rory had been unsure of telling Logan on the off chance that she wasn't his, but between the hair and nose it was hard to dispute. A paternity test when Katherine was five confirmed her father, and while he visited and sent many gifts for birthdays and Christmases, he never left the French heiress he had married.

Katherine spent a few summers in London with her father, step-mother, and two half brothers, but not often for she hated leaving her home and the residents that she called family.

She attended Chilton Academy thanks to her father's generosity. She received top marks, and graduated with honors. She was accepted to Harvard and Yale, and like her grandfathers and parents before her, she is now attending Yale.

She's had her fair share of partners, but is currently single as she attends her third year of University on her way to becoming a journalism major like her mother.
